How to Make Saffron Tea
Saffron spice is used widely in many culinary dishes, mostly to add a unique color, aroma and taste. It is no wonder that saffron makes a good addition to a lot of drinks too! An invigorating, mood lifting beverage, the saffron tea is said to be medicinal in nature because of all its curing power and anti-depressant components.
Preparing your very own herbal saffron tea is pretty easy. You’ll just need a cup of water, about 1/2 gm of saffron and a tablespoon of sugar or honey.
Bring water to a boil.
Crush 5 to 7 saffron stigmas and soak them into the hot water.
Leave the concoction for 5 to 10 minutes. At this point, you’ll want the saffron spices to release all its compounds like crocin, picrocin and safranal.
Trivia: These 3 bioactive compounds are believed to be largely responsible for their health promoting properties including treating various disorders like asthma, atherosclerosis, painful menstrual periods and even depression. They also act as anti-oxidants with anti-cancerous and memory enhancing properties! Now, that’s a lot for your saffron tea!
Step 4: Add sugar or honey (option to make the tea a little sweet).
Step 5: Voila! Your saffron tea is ready!
